All Tesla Model Y variants come equipped with a panoramic glass roof. Measuring 1,380 mm in length and 1,010 mm in width, this roof is among the largest in its SUV class, offering both front and rear passengers an expansive field of view. It is important to note that this glass roof features a fixed design; it cannot be physically opened and does not provide ventilation capabilities. This specific design choice reflects Tesla's priorities regarding the optimization of structural rigidity and aerodynamics. The roof utilizes a dual-layer coating technology capable of blocking 99% of ultraviolet (UV) rays, thereby effectively reducing UV radiation levels within the cabin. Furthermore, it incorporates a central reinforcing crossbeam, boasting an overall structural strength up to six times that required by national safety standards-a testament to its compliance with the industry's most rigorous safety requirements.
The Model Y's panoramic glass roof features an intelligent dimming system. This system allows users to adjust the level of shading-specifically the light transmittance-via the "Climate" menu on the central touchscreen or through voice commands (such as "Open the sunshade"). It supports a dynamic adjustment range of 15% to 75% light transmittance. According to official Tesla test data, this system can reduce air conditioning energy consumption by approximately 17%, thereby contributing to improved vehicle range performance. Additionally, the control logic for the sunshade is integrated with the vehicle's internal temperature sensors; should the cabin temperature exceed a predetermined threshold, the system may automatically adjust the sunshade's state to optimize the thermal environment within the vehicle.
